Earl Grey Tea

Amanda usually makes me a tea in the morning.  Fairly standard stuff.  An opaque mixture of Earl Grey tea with milk and sugar.  The tea bag is the kind that doesn’t have a string attached to it and Amanda usually leaves it in the tea and it sinks to the bottom.  This morning it seemed a bit off….no biggie.  Maybe a different brand of tea?  So I get to the bottom of my tea.  Usually the best part because the sugar has settled and it’s a bit sweeter.  In depths of the tea emerges this soggy curved misshapen mass that sloshes into my lip.  “What the -blank- is this?” I ask Amanda.  She looks at it and says, “Oh, that’s a doggie chew.  I was wondering where that went!”

Bettles Run

The beautiful weather north of the Alaska Range called out to us this weekend.  Pierre Josefsohn took the lead in his Husky and launched for Bettles mid day on Saturday.  Amanda and I joined him for dinner after leaving a few hours later in the 185.  Pierre recently bought us a movie as a gift called Salt of the Earth about Sebastiao Salgado, a famous black and white photographer.  I was inspired to ditch the color this weekend and attempted to take a few photos in B&W.  Oh, and the northern lights were out each night dancing above us.

Flying through the Brooks Range from Bettles towards the Noatak River.

 Arrigetch Peaks

After flying towards Howard Pass, we flew on to Feniak Lake and Desperation Lake where we saw caribou and bears.

These caribou passed right in front of us.

Amanda enjoying the sun above the arctic circle.

We flew along the Noatak River and down the Squirrel River to the Kobuk.  Then we headed for the dunes.  Here is Pierre on the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes.

Sand on one side.  Forest on the other.  Wha?????

Memorial Day 2013

May 2013.  Flew to Fairbanks on the long Memorial Day weekend.  The trees went into bloom while we were there.  The temps were in the 80's.

The Fairbanks airport has a wonderful camping area with bathrooms, showers, bicycles, and parking spots for your plane next to your tent.

Flying home from Fairbanks we were able to get a spectacular view of Denali and Foraker.

April 13, 2013

Flew through Lake Clark pass and visited Richard Proenneke's cabin.  We landed on the ice.  I flew down with Geno Rohl and David Wartinbee.

185, 180, and 180.

The famous door.

Back Online

Well, I've been off-line for awhile.  I'm going to post some photos from earlier times to catch up a bit.

Mark Reed

Mark Reed came to visit in March.  He won the Alaska State Squash Tournament while he was here.  He owns and is the brains behind Prism Kites.  Check them out.

My dad visited from Hawaii.  Here we are on the outer beach in Seldovia after walking the Otter Bahn trail.
